House on Fire is a hand-built theatre in green hills, half Gaudí and half kraal: mosaic spires, sculpted faces in plaster, a circular stage roofed in steel branches. The valley sits in early-winter cool and the audience layers up after dark, blankets and woollen hats, Swazi cane spirit going round in metal cups. The lineup pivots through afro-jazz, kwaito, gospel choirs and Mozambican marrabenta; the crowd is the most multi-generational gathering on the continent.
