You go down two flights of stairs in Itaewon and find Seoul's longest-running underground floor. Cakeshop is small, dark, properly soundproofed, and books harder than any other room in the city. International touring hip-hop and bass acts treat it as the Korean stop they would not skip. Thursdays are the local residencies that built the scene. Weekends fill with tourists. The bar runs late. The DJ booth sits at floor level, facing the floor, not above it. The city outside vanishes.
Thursday nights run the most diverse residencies. Weekends are tourist-heavy. Look for the residency programme on @cakeshopseoul.

Friday and Saturday nights for the headline international and Korean bookings. Weekly residencies run on Thursdays at lower cover. Avoid major holiday weekends when the room fills with non-regulars.
