01 · IN THE ROOM

The experience.

FAC is a 1940s cooking-oil factory in Vedado that the musician X Alfonso converted in 2014 into a five-room arts complex. The Nave 4 jazz room is the soundroom. The rooftop is the breathing room. There is a fashion runway next door to a film screening next door to a classical chamber quartet. Eight events run simultaneously across the building from 8pm to 3am. The doors open Thursday through Sunday. Queues form by 7pm. Cuban cultural policy made flesh. Time magazine put FAC on its World's Greatest Places list for good reason.

Best time, operating hours, getting there.

Best time to visit

When it's on

Thursday through Sunday only, 20:00 to 03:00. Doors close when the queue is too long, usually 21:30. Closed Monday through Wednesday.

How to get there

Vedado neighbourhood, taxi from Old Havana 15 minutes. The address is Calle 26 esquina 11, signed on the corner. From any Vedado hotel, walking distance.
