The Bamboo Cathedral runs along the old US Navy military road through the Tucker Valley in Chaguaramas, on Trinidad's western tip. The bamboo was planted in WWII for camouflage. The plants matured. Two parallel rows arched together overhead, forming a 1km Gothic-style vaulted nave entirely from living plant. The breeze plays the canes like a wind chime. Hang-drum players walk the tunnel at first light. Sound-meditation groups gather on Saturday mornings. The cathedral is a cathedral made of plants.
Walk it at first light, before the joggers. The bamboo creaks and clicks above you like a tuning orchestra.
A cathedral made of plants. The most literal Sonic Paths venue in the atlas.
Dry season (January to May) for the comfortable walk. The cathedral is at its most acoustically alive at dawn before the joggers arrive. Hang-drum players gather Saturday mornings 06:00 to 09:00.
Open year-round, dawn to dusk. No formal programming; informal musicians gather Saturday mornings and full-moon evenings. The 1km bamboo tunnel is a public walking path.
