Massey Hall opened in 1894. The Moorish-Revival lyric design has barely changed in 130 years. The 1953 record *Jazz at Massey Hall*, made here by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus and Max Roach, is the live record jazz historians call 'the greatest concert ever'. The 2021 refit kept the historic main hall intact and added Allan Slaight Hall in the basement: 500 cap, where the best Toronto bookings now happen. Neil Young's *Live at Massey Hall* is the same room. So is half the Canadian jazz canon.
Allan Slaight Hall in the basement (500 cap) is where the best Toronto bookings happen post-2021 refit.
Canadian anchor venue. The room that recorded the greatest jazz concert ever.
