01 · IN THE ROOM

The experience.

Red Rocks is geology built for the bass. The two flanking rocks (Ship Rock to the north, Creation Rock to the south) form a near-perfect amphitheatre that 300 million years of erosion has tuned. The stage faces east, the audience faces west, and at 6,450 feet the air is thin and clear and the sound carries cold. U2's *Under a Blood Red Sky* was filmed here. So was *Live at Red Rocks* for half the touring jazz canon. The view from the cheap seats is the same view from the front row: the Rocky Mountain Front from elevation.
