01 · IN THE ROOM

The experience.

Disney Hall is what happens when Gehry gets to build the room he wants. From outside, six storeys of crumpled stainless steel pointed at the Hollywood Hills. Inside, a vineyard-terrace concert hall finished entirely in Douglas fir, the audience wrapped around the orchestra in steep terraces. Yasuhisa Toyota designed the acoustic, the same hand behind Berlin's Philharmonie. The room has a 2.2-second reverb and a 2,265-seat shape that puts every listener within 95 feet of the conductor. LA Phil residency. Gustavo Dudamel's living room.

03 · INSIDER TIP

Walk in knowing.

Free organ recital Tuesdays at 12:10pm. The Glatter-Götz pipe organ looks like a packet of curly fries and sounds like the Pacific.
