01 · IN THE ROOM

The experience.

Down a sloped Shibuya side street, past the love hotels, into a four-storey hole in the ground. Womb is purpose-built for the bass. The main room's ceiling mirror ball is so large it bends the laser geometry. Funktion-One on the main floor, smaller booths on the upper levels, residents who DJ as a vocation. Saturday night here is half technical pilgrimage, half religious experience. Go upstairs first. The 4th-floor lounge plays smaller, sharper sets than the room everyone queues for.

03 · INSIDER TIP

Walk in knowing.

The smaller 4th-floor Womb Lounge often runs better local DJs than the main room. Go upstairs first, descend later.

04 · WHY IT FITS

A Sonic Paths room.

Tokyo clubland anchor. The Berghain-tier slot for the Japan cluster.

05 · PLAN THE TRIP

Best time, operating hours, getting there.

Best time to visit

Saturday nights for the big-room headliners. Friday nights for the local Tokyo residencies, sharper and looser. The 4th-floor Womb Lounge is consistently the better-curated room. Avoid the first Saturday after a major tourist holiday, the club fills with non-regulars.

When it's on

Friday and Saturday nights only. Doors 23:00 to 05:00. Selected midweek events for international touring acts. ID required at the door, foreign passports accepted.

How to get there

Shibuya station, exit 7, ten-minute walk down a sloping side street past the love hotels. The unmarked black door is hard to find first time, use Google Maps with the venue name in Japanese.
